The Connection between Democracy and the Will to Work
"Just as a free thought-spiritual life will promote the development of the individual's abilities, in the same way a democratically oriented life based on rights and duties (the rule of law) will provide the necessary motivation for anyone willing to work.
Real relationships that form among people united in one social organism, in which all responsible people acknowledge each other's rights, will kindle the will to work "for the community".
One should be aware that genuine community feeling and hence the will to work can only arise where such relationships exist. For in reality, a state based on the rule of law (rights and duties) will lead to every person being actively and consciously involved in common work. Such persons will know what they are working for; and they will want to work within a community in which they know that they are integrated through their will."
