Professorship in Social Sculpture

Dr. Walter Kugler has recently been appointed Professor of Social Sculpture in the Department of Arts at Oxford Brookes University. The professorship, funded by the Iona Stichting, Holland, will enable the SSRU to develop a publishing programme in social sculpture and related fields.

Walter Kugler has been involved in an exploration of social sculpture related questions since the late 1960's - when he first had contact with Joseph Beuys in the Andreasstr office of the Organisation for Direct Democracy. In addition to his writing and editing of many volumes and essays, and his direction of the Rudolf Steiner Archive in Switzerland, Walter Kugler has curated numerous international exhibitions, including Rudolf Steiner's  Blackboard Drawings and major works of Joseph Beuys. Amongst these are the Zurich exhibition with Harald Szeemann; Imagination, Inspiration, Intuion for the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia (2007), and currently the major touring exhibition for the Vitra Museum, Switzerland.
