Anja Steckling
is a German artist whose exploration of Social Sculpture began to take shape after attending a lecture by Shelly Sacks. Her interest in human relationships, social networks and their structural underpinnings have found their way into all areas of her professional and artistic life and she is now beginning the deeper exploration of developing new, creative approaches to dealing with societal and sociopolitical questions.

She has studied in both Ireland and Germany, has participated in Beuys Symposiums in Germany and the Ecology & Artistic Practice Symposium in London. She has lectured in Basel, Switzerland on "Das Dialogische Prinzip im zwischenmenschlichen Gestaltungsprozess" and in Weimar, Germany at Bauhaus Sommerakademie together with Dr. Hildegard Kurt, "Bauhaus; Erbe und Potential für ein zukunftsfähiges Europa."

Her interest is in moving beyond the old paradigm in which Artist, Work-of-Art and Viewer are subject to separation towards a new model of greater equality and levels of engagement for the participants in the artistic process. Through her work she hopes to narrow the divide between art and society.
