Restorers' Forum
The preservation and restoration of art is a specialist territory with a long history. The work of artists using ephemeral and organic materials poses particular challenges to restoration specialists.
This is made more complex in instances where the work to be cared for -like the Block Beuys in the Landesmuseum, Darmstadt- clearly incorporates the entire context, although the artist did not leave explicit written statements about restoring such work, nor about where 'the work' begins and ends
This Restorers' Forum is one of the dedicated members' forums on this site exploring issues that could benefit from the international space for specialist communication that this site offers, alongside open forums in the field of social sculpture
This Restorers' Forum -focusing on the preservation and restoration of work incorporating emphemeral and organic materials, with special reference to the work of Joseph Beuys- arose out of discussions at the Landesmuseum, Darmstadt on 22 February 2008, following a seminar on the future of the Block Beuys.
